Demo Co is a 120-person B2B SaaS company in San Francisco. Our product turns CRM and product-usage events into account scores that sales teams work from every morning. We have strong data engineering and no data scientist. You will be the first.
Three problems are waiting for you. We have no experimentation practice: features ship behind flags and we read the results off a dashboard. Our pricing has not been tested since launch, and finance wants to know what an annual-plan discount actually does to conversion and retention. And our revenue and usage forecasts are spreadsheets that miss by more than anyone likes to say in a board meeting.
You will build the experimentation platform with engineering, own pricing analytics and forecasting with finance, and set the bar for how this company makes decisions with data. You report to Mark Manager and work most days with product, finance and the data engineers who already own the warehouse.
Hybrid: three days a week in our SoMa office.
What we're looking for
- 7+ years of applied data science, with decisions you can point to that changed because of your work
- Designed, powered and analyzed online experiments yourself, including variance reduction such as CUPED
- Causal inference beyond A/B tests: difference-in-differences, synthetic control, or instrumental variables on real data
- Fluent SQL and Python; you write the queries and the production code, not only the notebook
- A record of telling a senior stakeholder the result they did not want, and the decision holding
Nice to have
- Experimentation on low-traffic B2B products: account-level randomization, sequential testing, long conversion windows
- Hierarchical forecasting with reconciliation across segments
- Has been the first data scientist somewhere, or built an experimentation platform from scratch
